Come and join the fun at Stickleberries
Stickleberries is a family run business and has been open since September 2015. It is a home from home environment where we hope to inspire and nourish children from 3 months to 5 years before they go to school.
We also provide a before and after school club in a relaxed environment for children to unwind and do any home work!
Stickleberries has fantastic links to the Dunbury Academy and gets involved with special events.
Nestled in the scenic Dorset countryside only a 10 minute drive from the Georgian town Blandford, Stickleberries can be found in the beautiful village of Winterborne Stickland. The old school house is at the heart of the village. We take the children on walks around the village and also like to get involved with the community.
Corona Virus Information for Parents
Some of you have been in contact, expressing concerns relating to the prominent media coverage regarding the COVID-19 virus. Before going any further, we would like to assure you that we are monitoring the situation very closely. We have been referring to the guidance outlined by the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA), along with the NHS, Public Health England and Gov.uk website update service.
First and foremost, we would like to remind you that despite the somewhat alarming media coverage, the COVID-19 virus is only considered a danger to those with a decreased immune system, the elderly and those with long term illnesses such as diabetes, cancer and chronic lung disease. For everyone else, it is reported that the effects of the illness are not dissimilar to the common illness, influenza. By continuing good hygienic practices and increased hand washing, it is possible to limit the spread in the same way we would the common cold. There is no evidence that children are more affected than other age groups – very few cases have been reported in children. There is also currently no good evidence that people who do not have symptoms are infectious to others.
As a nursery we are ensuring that we continue to encourage your children to wash their hands thoroughly, to sneeze or cough into a tissue and dispose of tissues appropriately. Our staff and all rooms within the nursery are equipped with hand sanitiser gel and all staff are aware of the symptoms to look out for.
The Department for Education has launched a new helpline to answer questions about COVID-19 related to education. Parents can contact the helpline as follows: phone: 0800 046 8687, email: DfE.email@example.com (opening hours: 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday)
In the meantime, Government advice is that if you have returned from the following areas in the specified timescales, you should call NHS 111, stay indoors and avoid contact with other people even if you do not have symptoms:
• Anywhere in Italy on or after 9 March
• Specific areas in northern Italy in the last 14 days (from 10 March 2020)
• Iran in the last 14 days (from 10 March 2020)
• Hubei province in China in the last 14 days (from 10 March 2020)
• Daegu, Cheongdo or Gyeongsan in South Korea in the last 14 days (from 10 March 2020)
You can find the most up to date Public Government Guidance here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public
If you believe you have been exposed to the virus, please call NHS 111 or use this link for their online service https://111.nhs.uk/service/covid-19 . DO NOT go to your local GP, Pharmacy or Hospital.
Until we are advised otherwise, we will continue to open and operate as normal, while remaining vigilant. However, please understand we must be cautious. If children exhibit flu-like symptoms, parents must keep the child away from nursery until medical advice has been sought. Children exhibiting signs of flu or that present with a fever, will be sent home.
We would like to reiterate that there is no cause for concern or panic. We understand that there have been talks of school closures etc in the press. Please trust that we have no plans to close and we would inform you as parents immediately should that situation change.
Our priority as always, is the safety and wellbeing of your children.
We have attached a poster from Public Health England and also include a link to their video on handwashing:
If you have any concerns, our door is always open.
